The future is coming: Dubai Opera House

The future is coming: How Dubai will look by Expo 2020?

The UAE skyline continues to grow at an incredible rate with a string of wonderful new buildings coming to a street near you in the coming years. Every week, we profile some of the eye-catching, today we talk about Dubai Opera House.

DUBAI OPERA HOUSE
Where: Downtown Dubai
What: This venue will hold 2,000 people and stage operas, theatre shows, concerts, exhibitions, performance art and various other cultural highlights.
Opens: 2016

Dubai Opera is a 2,000 seat, multi-format, performing arts centre, which is located within The Opera District in Downtown Dubai.

It is being developed to host a variety of performances and events including theatre, opera, ballet, concerts, conferences and exhibitions.

Its plans were announced by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in March 2012 and is scheduled to be completed in 2016.

The 2,000-seat performing arts centre can be converted into a traditional theatre, concert hall, banquet hall or exhibition space.

Using hydraulic technology to relocate 900 of the 2,000 seats, the space can be used for other events while the extra seating is stored in garages beneath the theatre.

Dubai Opera is designed to resemble a Dhow, a traditional sailing vessel, in which the 'bow' of the structure will house the opera's main stage, orchestra and seating, while the elongated 'hull' will have waiting areas, taxi drop-off areas, and parking.

The project was developed by WS Atkins.

WS Atkins is a British multinational engineering, design, planning, project management and consulting services company headquartered in Epsom, United Kingdom. It was founded in 1938 by Sir William Atkins.

This company has already created for the city of Dubai, the famous Burj Al Arab and The Address Downtown Dubai.

This is just one of the many new projects planned in Dubai before the Expo 2020 and each week we will know a new one.
